Biggest One Day Temperature Swings

The biggest one day rises and drops in daily maximum and minimum temperature worldwide, and the widest and narrowest ranges, with station and date. Built from NOAA GHCN-Daily station records by this site; every chart states its stations and its period.

Data as of . Last revised (2026-10-12).

Key Facts

  • The same measures are on this page for 6 continents and 82 countries.

How to Read This Page

A one day swing is the difference between one day and the next in the daily maximum or the daily minimum temperature. The page lists the ten biggest rises and the ten biggest drops of each, and the ten widest and narrowest gaps between the highest and the lowest temperature of the same day. Each entry gives the station, the value and the date.

Only stations with at least 10 complete years are listed. A station appears once per list.

Single readings can still be instrument errors that quality control missed, so read an entry as a reported value and not as a confirmed event. Stations are not spread evenly: some regions have many and others few, so a continent or world figure describes the stations in the set and not every place. Every figure here describes what the station records show. It does not say why it changed.

This page has the world, 6 continents and 82 countries with data. Each scope has its own station sets, named in its charts.
