Longest Hot, Cold, Wet and Dry Streaks

The longest runs of hot days, warm nights, frost days, ice days, dry days and wet days on record worldwide, with the station, the dates and the length. Built from NOAA GHCN-Daily station records by this site; every chart states its stations and its period.

Data as of . Last revised (2026-10-12).

How to Read This Page

Each list is the ten longest runs of its kind in the station records. A run is counted in consecutive days: days with a daily maximum at or above 35 C (95 F) or 40 C (104 F), days with a daily minimum at or above 20 C (68 F), at or below 0 C (32 F), or days with a daily maximum at or below 0 C. Dry and wet spells are the longest run of days with less than 1 mm of rain, and of days with 1 mm or more, within one year; their dates are not kept, so the lists name the year.

Only complete years count, and a station appears once per list with its longest run. A run belongs to the year it started in, so a run that began in December and ended in January is counted for December's year.

Stations are not spread evenly: some regions have many and others few, so a continent or world figure describes the stations in the set and not every place. Every figure here describes what the station records show. It does not say why it changed. A long run says that a station recorded those days in a row; a gap in reporting can cut a run short, and the lists cannot show runs at places without a station.

This page has the world, 6 continents and 119 countries with data. Each scope has its own station sets, named in its charts.

A run belongs to the year it started in, even when it ran on into the next year. A station appears once per list, with its longest run in a complete year. Dry and wet spells are the longest run within a year. Lists use complete years only, so a long run in a year with gaps in the record is not counted.

A run belongs to the year it started in, even when it ran on into the next year. A station appears once per list, with its longest run in a complete year. Dry and wet spells are the longest run within a year. Lists use complete years only, so a long run in a year with gaps in the record is not counted.
